How To: Connect via SSH to Iomega/Lenovo IX4-300D NAS

A colleague of mine almost bricked his Iomega NAS (Network Area Storage) the other day and if it weren't for the ability to SSH into it there would have been no other way to fix it. Hence here's a little guide on how to SSH into your Iomega/Lenovo IX4-300D.

SSH on the Iomega/Lenovo IX / PX NAS systems is meant for support personal only, hence it is a hidden feature that few know about. Keep in mind use SSH at your own risk as modifying the file system will void your warranty.

Depending on the firmware that you have please go to one of the following websites replacing the 192.168.0.6 IP address with your own.

Firmware:

The following screen will open where you can allow remote access for support (SSH and SFTP) via the default SSH Port 22.

Trying to connect to your NAS now is easy and using Windows your best way to do so is via putty. Using the below configuration with your own IP address once again, click on 'Open' to connect. You will be prompted by a warning message about the server's host key, click 'Yes' to be connected through the SSH tunnel to your NAS.

At the login screen asking you to 'login as:', use 'root' and the password 'soho'. You are now inside your Iomega/Lenovo IX4-300D NAS, happy file system browsing.
