Top reasons for why I just bought myself the Google Galaxy Nexus

The best Android phones are arguably the Nexus devices which get special treatment from Google. These phones have the latest software, the best features and often the best looks.

1. The Galaxy Nexus is a Nexus device.
That moniker makes it different than the other Android devices that are available on the market. First of all, it means that the Galaxy Nexus will be on the forefront of all major Android updates. Ever had to wait around for an Android update? Yeah, it’s not fun at all.

Second, the software on the Galaxy Nexus is of the vanilla flavor. This means that there isn’t a clunky manufacturer-made user interface on top of Android, which makes for a much smoother experience.

The other big factor that the Galaxy Nexus has going for it is that it’s the first phone to support Android 4.0, 'Ice Cream Sandwich'. Like previous Nexus phones, it runs the stock version of Android without any of the additional animations, widgets, and user-interface modifications that the phone makers like to add.

2. Large HD Widescreen Display
The Galaxy Nexus adds an inch of screen size (4.64") when compared to the iPhone and brings with it a Super AMOLED display with 1280x720 720p HD resolution.

Even browsing the web, reading email and reading eBooks is nicer on the larger screen, while the higher resolutions allows me to see more on the screen without constantly having to scroll through it.

3. Open Platform
The open platform that the Google Nexus provides, even without being jailbroken, offers you a changeable (and degradable) battery, the option of installing an alternative keyboard, new home screens/app launchers, and even setting the phone in developer mode (jailbraking) really easily.

4. Home Screen
The Galaxy Nexus also wins out in home screen layout and customization. One feature that stands out more than any other on the Galaxy Nexus when compare to the iPhone is the ability to place application widgets on your home screen. In addition to smarter built-in Gmail and Calendar widgets, you can customize the layout of most widgets with a drag and drop to fit the way you want your home screen to look. This is much nicer than looking for the right 4×1 widget in settings. Widgets provide fast access to information like weather, traffic, your inbox and much more.

5. Flash Support
While you may not love Flash, there are still a number of websites that heavily rely upon it. When it comes down to it, the ability to watch a video or load a website beats getting a “please download the latest flash player.” message on the iPhone.

6. Google Apps
Android phones have always handled Google Apps better than the competition, but with Ice Cream Sandwich the others are left for dead. The new Google Apps are designed to handle multiple accounts with ease, and make great use of the larger screen.

If you in particular rely on Gmail like me, and want the best experience around, Android is still the best game in town and with Ice Cream Sandwich it's even better.

Having the built-in Google Maps Navigation makes it easy to get where you are going, by allowing address to be opened directly from the browser or your contacts list without having to cut and paste or even worse retype it.

7. Near Field Communication (NFC) for Sharing and Paying
The Galaxy Nexus also includes NFC, which allows seamless sharing of information and files with other Galaxy Nexus owners using Android Beam. This tool is pretty cool, but the real promise is in the form of making payments.

Google Wallet is not officially supported, but you can install Google Wallet on your Galaxy Nexus and get $10 to try out the service. With NFC and Google Wallet, you can make payments at PayPass locations by holding your phone up to the card reader.
