How To: Create a survey poll with Google Docs

I have recently had the need to create quite a few form for various websites and one of the best way to do so is using Google Docs. The following how to article outlines the simplest of forms one can create with Google Docs but the possibilities are endless.

In order to proceed further we're going to assume that you have a valid Google (Gmail) account. If you do go to http://drive.google.com and click on 'New' > 'Form'.

Creating a form is actually really easy, and the online help document does a pretty good job explaining what to do. You have a number of options when creating a question – you can make it multiple choice, full text, or even a numerical scale, and you can mark some questions as required. If you're looking for the 'Add item' button, it's up at the top of the page rather than below the last question.

After you've created your form, use the 'More Actions' button to find the 'Embed' option which will allow you to publish your survey to the web. Just copy the provided iframe to a page on the web – it's that simple.

Please note that you can change the height and width to better fit your page. Keep in mind that some web site applications will not let you post HTML code while others like WordPress, require you to use the HTML view.

Retrieving you data, well here's where it gets really cool. The data is automatically stored inside a Google spreadsheet that you can edit online, export to Microsoft Excel or share with other Google users. The best thing about it is you may also view it graphically by going to 'Form' > 'Show' summary of responses.
